Renowned for winning the 2009 Dakar Rally, Stellenbosch based racing and rally driver, Giniel De Villiers has added the Pennypinchers Origin of Trails two- day mountain bike stage race to his Dakar racing fitness regime.

According to De Villiers mountain-biking helps him keep fit for the Dakar Rally. “Keeping fit for the Dakar Rally is very important. It’s more physically demanding than people realize. As with any sport, if you want to do well you have to keep fit. I also love riding my Specialized Epic bicycle. The Pennypinchers Origin of Trails has great trails and it’s in my backyard. I’d recommend it to other riders because of its great trails and beautiful scenery. It’s an all-round good weekend.”

The Pennypinchers Origin of Trails is a two day mountain bike stage race set in the mountains around Stellenbosch. There are two options, the long course and the short course.

Stage one, on Friday 27 November, is around 60 kilometres long and includes 1750 metres of climbing. It also includes 23.4 kilometres of are single track. The short course is 31 kilometres long.
