Day 6 of the Old Mutual joBerg2c was a 98km ride from Clifton Preparatory School in Nottingham Road to Glencairn Farm near Himeville. The day featured two big climbs, Gumtree (because it’s said that you’ll sell your bike after riding up it) and Slow Poison (because the forestry road ascending never seems to end).

Had a really incredible misty start at Clifton school, with a 7km of neutral zone, it was a nice relaxed downhill through town. I picked the Surgeons for Little lives to ride with today, this meant I had to go hard to stay will them, and slowly I found a rhythm.

The first climb of the day was the brutal Gumtree climb, I had a few stops and pushed the last 50m to the top. After that the run to the first water point was a good one, especially after the climb. A welcome stop I fueled up and got ready for what was waiting.

Next on the cards was the new route, Harrisons, the best single track of any stage race I've ever done. it was incredible, especially following, race organiser, Wappo, down the hill going 65kph with 30 switchbacks, I ended with a big smile.

This was followed by more climbing till we got to the Sappi forest section. I managed to ride with five guys that can shred proper, it saw us riding an awesome train through the forests. The last water point was incredible, great food and wonderful cheer.

Following which I rode to the end with Wappo ending at Glencairn farm, It was a great day taking me a reasonable 7h30, an awesome 89km!

Day seven of the Old Mutual joBerg2c is something of rest day - a bright and breezy 80km from Glencairn Farm to McKenzie Club near Ixopo. The day is famous for it’s smooth single track, so riders will go to bed tonight with the prospect of a fun, fast, flowing day to come.
